An appropriate spring outfit for wandering about the shops in Manchester. This blouse evokes the spring spirit to me – polka dots, sunny yellow, but long sleeves because I live in Yorkshire and the temperature is temperamental. Also, perfect for work – I love a versatile piece!
Since moving to semi-rural Yorkshire, one thing I have stopped doing is shopping trips. I took the abundance of shops in London a bit for granted towards the end there, and now there aren’t any on my doorstep. I have to actually go out of my way to shop… Thank goodness for amazing friends who drag you out and insist you have a fun, fabulous time reminding you that it’s a wonderful, fun, cathartic, hilarious experience when you’re with the right people.
In saying that, I do have some guidelines I follow when shopping that perhaps might make your next girls’ shopping experience more efficient.
- Wear separates – it’s easier to just try on just a top or bottom when you only have to remove one item. I can be a bit of a lazy tryer-oner in that if it is going to be too much of a hassle or there’s a long queue for the fitting rooms (all dependent on how much I love the item to try on), I probably won’t bother. For me, I’ve got about a 3 item minimum before I’ll even head to the fitting rooms. I like to make it count.
- Wear simple jewellery – no bold earrings, necklaces or anything too flashy. A simple pair of hoops and chain work best. Simple, elegant and go with pretty much every outfit, regardless of what you’re trying on.
- Shoes – comfortable and easy to slip on and off. I love a good pair of flats, no fuss, no laces or buckles. Efficient. Also a good tip for the airport 😉
- Bag – crossbody is the way to go. Leaves your hands free and doesn’t swing about too much when you’re reaching or bending down. And you shouldn’t have to constantly hoist it back onto your shoulder like a tote or shoulder bag. One should resist hoisting in public.
- Have fun! Pop an upbeat playlist on when you’re on your way or try on the most extravagant outfit you can.
Enjoy yourselves! And let me know what you buy on your next shopping trip 😊
Big hugs,
Sarah
